Sonoma County Lesbian Reunion will be screening The Unlikely Story Of The Lesbians Of First Friday (Kathryn L. Beranich, 63 mins) at the Rialto CinemasⓇ in Sebastopol on Sunday, April 23 at 1 and 4 p.m. The screenings will be followed by Q&As with producer Kathryn L. Beranich, and Nancy Kelly, who appears in the film.
The doc tells a unique story of lesbians living in the Blue Ridge Mountains during the 1980s. It begins early in the decade, when a disparate group of lesbians living in the Bible Belt of Southwestern Virginia found each other and birthed a vibrant community called First Friday.
In an era when queer folks were reviled, the women of First Friday created safe and fun-filled spaces that framed the social lives of rural and displaced urban lesbians, whose antics were as legendary and as the events they held.
Tickets $15.00 at the theater or in advance.
